In September of 2023, I was tasked with creating the cover image for the November 2023 issue of Drug Discovery News (DDN) Magazine. The main topic of the issue was provided by the editor, and the design team is tasked with coming up with creative ways to illustrate the concept on the cover, in a hopes to catch people’s attention.

The main concept for the November 2023 issue was in relation to an incurable disease called Prion Disease, which over time slowly kills the patient’s brain. Scientists are currently working on treatments for this disease; hence – “a race against time”. Brainstorming with my art director, we originally thought we would go the route of a gradient of flowers, starting alive & well, to dried up & dead in the form of a brain. Unfortunately, given the short timeline to complete the cover and get it to press, this was going to be too time consuming, so in consulting with the creative director, we came up with the idea of a stop watch, showing a brain slowly disintegrating throughout time.
